Welcome to our special home in Bali.
Rumah Laplapan isn’t another ‘Bali villa’, luxury resort or even boutique hotel. Our property is made up of three separate houses of different sizes & styles, which can be rented individually or as one ‘retreat’ venue. We think of it as an immersive Bali holiday experience – a home where you enjoy living in and interacting with a Balinese village, but with all the privacy, comfort & pampering you desire.
Our guests tend to be travelers rather than tourists: We’ve hosted authors, artists, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, travel bloggers, triathlon trainees, honeymooners, academic researchers, yogis and yoginis, overworked NGO folks and underworked meditation gurus.
All of them shared one thing: the desire for a place of tranquility where they can unwind and do their thing.
Some sleep all day, some write all day, others cook gourmet meals in our fully-equipped kitchen. Some go wellness-hopping between Ubud’s countless spas & yoga studios, while others use our place as a comfy base for exploring the island, often hiring one of our excellent drivers to lead them to the most beautiful spots in Bali. And a few just spend all day and night in our gorgeous swimming pool, sipping wine or beer or smoothies perched atop our floating bean bags, wondering what day of the week it is and when the on-call massage therapist is going to arrive again.
We designed Rumah Laplapan in 2013 with a few guiding principles:
The entire property would worship the rice field and forest views, bringing the gorgeous natural surroundings in rather than shutting them out behind a wall.
The houses wouldn’t be ‘showpieces’ aimed to impress, but instead would feel like beautiful country homes, with multiple cozy corners in which to relax: deep plush sofas, king-sized beds with the most comfortable mattresses you’ve ever slept on, floating bean bags, ottomans reading chairs, cushions & blankets everywhere.
The property wouldn’t be a walled-off ‘villa’ where tourists hide, but a home that sits comfortably among the glimmering rice fields; farmers culling coconuts from nearby palm trees; our Balinese landowner placing her ritual offerings right outside your bedroom window; and majestic white herons flying gracefully overhead each afternoon.
Some guests have said it feels like being in a movie.... This is why we live here.
